Paleo is a way of eating. In a lot of ways, it’s an evolutionary technique. For instance, the human diet before agriculture changed over time from mainly wild plants and insects to a more human-centered approach with domesticated crops, sheep, goats, and cattle. This change came about as a response to the animals consuming what they needed from the land.
We began to eat certain foods so we wouldn’t have to rely on hunting and gathering for survival. It was also a reaction to our ancestors struggling to find food and other products which were more easily stored and taken to market. The benefits to humans from having access to the food and products which are easily prepared using stone tools and cooking without the need to go out into the field are too great to ignore.
Since we started to eat meat, we also started to have to use fossil fuels in order to cook our meat. Because of this, we have lost many of the key nutritional characteristics which we had in our ancestral past. By changing our diet and eating more foods like fruits and vegetables, we can avoid the repercussions of evolution.
And just like that change in our diet, when it’s time to re-engineer your diet and re-engineer your body, it’s time to reconsider things. You can’t eat foods that aren’t suited to your lifestyle.
In Paleo, there are no high protein foods, no sugar, grains, or legumes. Those of us who are still struggling with the weight issues simply do not have the time to allow our bodies to heal and re-train themselves to handle the negative energy you may have put onto them through the years.
Now, there are people who may disagree with me and claim that there’s plenty of high protein foods available in Paleo. Yes, there are foods like cheese, eggs, beef, and chicken. But, those items are still more geared towards the construction worker than the hunt.
As a plant-based diet, your body needs to digest a lot easier. You’re also going to have to consume a lot less carbohydrates and calories. There are a lot of benefits to this, but it comes with a price tag.
It’s harder to get into ketosis, so many people will find it harder to lose weight. All of the great things about eating a Paleo diet will be slightly taken away because you have to eat a lot less. You might find it hard to lose weight in Paleo but it’s all worth it in the end.
Don’t be fooled by the hype surrounding this tough diet. If you make some changes and be consistent, you’ll find it’s easier to lose weight than you think.
Eating meat may seem bad for your health at first, but it actually doesn’t have to be. Paleo is a way of life, and I don’t think you can do Paleo and NOT enjoy healthy food.
Remember, Paleo isn’t an extreme plan which should be done exclusively for the sake of achieving a goal. It’s really a good way to eat and really good for your body as well.
